Reducing frustration is one of the key element in Dementia care. A person with Alzheimer’s & Dementia might become agitated when once-simple tasks become difficult. To limit challenges and ease frustration:

Schedule wisely. Establish a routine to make each day less agitating and confusing. People with Alzheimer’s & Dementia can still learn and follow routines. Often it is best to schedule tasks, such as bathing or medical appointments, when the person is most alert and refreshed. Allow some flexibility within the routine for spontaneous activities.
Take your time. Expect things to take longer than they used to. Allow the person with Alzheimer’s & Dementia to have frequent breaks. Schedule more time for tasks so that you don’t need to hurry him or her.

Cleaning & Housekeeping

Help to make sure that your loved one takes all prescribed medicines and follows suggestions from the hospital medical team about diet, exercise, rest, and other health practices. Encourage and help patient to practice skills learned in rehabilitation. Help your loved one with activities performed before the stroke. These could include using tools, buttoning a shirt, household tasks, and leisure or social activities. Help with personal care, if the person cannot manage alone. Help with communication, if the patient has speech problems. Include the stroke survivor in conversations even when the person cannot actively participate.

Post-Op & Rehab Care

The ADA Extended Home care staff will work with you and your family to make sure that a compassionate and quality caregiver will be present when you need them to provide post hospital home care. Whether you are recovering from a fall, from surgery, or other health issue, we will provide the right care professional for you, be it a nurse, a physiotherapist, an occupational therapist or PSW. Post operative care will be unique and customized to provide rehabilitation for each patient, depending on the type surgery and their general health before and after surgery.

The aim of a postoperative care plan is to avoid developing complications and promote healing in the time after surgery to improve the patient’s overall health. As well as providing elderly home care our caregivers are trained to recognize the signs of postoperative complications,and to seek immediate medical assistance.

The case manager, a licensed health care professional, will be directly involved in every stage of care. She will recommend treatment based on changes in the client’s health condition and can communicate with pharmacists and doctors on your behalf.

We believe in consistency of care provided by a single caregiver per client. Our clients appreciate the relationship created between them and their dedicated caregiver.
